James Jarvis
James Jarvis was born in London in 1970, and studied at the University of Brighton and the Royal College of Art, graduating in 1995. Jarvis is an artist and visual philosopher, whose work encompasses cartoons, objects, comics, graphic design, printmaking and moving image.
James Jarvis is best known for his expressive, black-and-white calligraphy and illustrations of whimsical cartoon characters including his signature Sphere subject. The celebrated British artist has recently shared a series of graffiti collages on his Instagram account, signaling a new approach that merges his figuration with potent abstract elements.
Over 20 years Jarvis’ s practice has important context which concerns drawing, philosophy, alternate realities, minimalism and skateboarding. Especially as skateboarder himself, his work is widely representing street culture which is now globally recognized one of the most important culture movement in 21st century.
Jarvis’ work has been shown in PARCO Museum in Shibuya, Tokyo and is well known through many collaborative project with Coca-Cola, MTV, Nike, Sony or UNIQLO. Jarvis is also recognized as character designer through his iconic character toy, Martin, for the cult fashion brand Silas.
James Jarvis,1970 年生於英國倫敦,就讀布萊頓大學,1995 年畢業於皇家藝術學院。他是一名藝術及視覺哲學家,作品以卡通,物件,漫畫,平面設計, 版畫及動態影像為主。
Jarvis以他澎湃的黑白卡通人物及書法字體而聞名,畫作中的圓形主體更成為他的標誌。這位英國藝術家近年更創新猷,將塗鴉的抽象風格融入自己的作品,拼貼出濃厚的都市現代感。
Jarvis 曾與多個品牌合作,包括可口可樂、MTV、Nike、Sony 及 UNIQLO等等,當中創作了不少廣為人知的作品。他亦是角色設計師,而他為時裝品牌 Silas 設 計的玩具角色 Martin 正是經典之作。Jarvis 過去二十年的創作主體均圍繞繪畫、哲學、另類實景、簡約主義及滑板進行。他對滑板運動尤其熱愛,其作品亦展 示了被視為二十一世紀最重要文化運動之一的街頭文化。
