Aleksandar Todorovic

Aleksandar Todorovic is particularly sensitive about world geopolitics and its effect across the globe. This period proves to be crucial in the formation of the artist’s visual language, as he sees the hierarchy of a religion or a political system as one and the same. They both imply and require worship, of either individuals or ideas. The concept of evil is embodied inside the core of his artistic investigations, its origin and consequenses are attempted to be approached by Todorovic from different perspectives. Merging with an illustrative, scrupulous and accessible visual style, the artist challenged and overthrew the visual codes of Orthodox saints, highlighting the subjects’ positive contributions as well as surrounding controversies. The essence of medieval Byzantine aesthetic and features tells a tale about sincerity versus phoniness, and medias’ influence on our perception of certain powerful figures and the ideologies behind, embellished by politically incorrect humour, vivid colours and symbolic texts.

Takeshi Masada has been highly acclaimed for his dynamic images and compositions, which are mainly paintings that reconstruct scenes from movies, TV shows and everyday life. Masada draws his inspiration from figures in his nightmares. Painting and morphing these figures with bold brushstrokes and vibrant colors has become his therapeutic conquest against his fears. In recent years, the artist has developed his own distinctive style which weaves stories emerged from his boundless imaginary world. This epic journey has etched Masada’s mark in the world.

Teiji Hayama reimagines celebrity culture by using greyscale oil paintings to depict most iconic celebrities from past eras—as opposed to wannabes influencers produced by social media. Their glamorous faces and charismatic images are manipulated into peculiar, bored, exhausted expressions from upholding an ideal identity and the endless pursuit of auspiciousness as defined by society. Smothered by a false veil of perfection, these exaggerated facial and body language uncovers the weariness on social media under its domination, as digital contents on social media are becoming more filtered, unblemished, and digitally manipulated.
